Kidzz4Kidzz Mentoring Program
The Kidzz4Kidzz Mentoring Program matches children in foster care with teenage mentors. We have yearly events for all of the matches to get together, which this year will be located at Fun Station U.S.A. in Lynbrook, New York. Last year, we brought all of our matches to Shea Stadium to see a baseball game. At Fun Station, our matches will get to spend time together playing video games, board games, and laser tag, going on rides, doing arts and crafts, and singing karaoke. We also try very hard to keep in touch with the children in our program throughout the year through letters, phone calls and outings.
The Kidzz4Kidzz Mentoring Program hopes to create permanent relationships for children who would not normally get such an opportunity. While these children are moved from placement to placement within the foster care system, they can at least have one friend who sticks with them and helps them to stay on the right track. At Shea Stadium last year, we had one little boy tell us that this was the best day of his life as soon as he met his mentor, before the game even started. One of our mentors gave her match a little birthday party around his birthday, and he told her that she gave him the best birthday he ever had. Another child, at the end of the day, said, "I'm so happy because now, I have a friend."
